Tommy Jarrell 111th Birthday Party March 9
The
Brandywine Friends of Old Time Music invite you to
>> A Celebration of Tommy Jarrell's 111th Birthday <<<
Friday, March 9, 2012 at 8 p.m.
at the Unitarian Fellowship Hall, 420 Willa Road, Newark, Delaware 19711
Nancy & Rusty Neithammer, Paul Brown & Terri McMurray host an evening of music remembering National Heritage Fellow Thomas Jefferson Jarrell, fiddler, banjo player and vocalist from the Round Peak area of Surry County, North Carolina. Jarrell was an important mentor and a direct link to the early American string bands. His style was notable for its expressive use of syncopation and sliding ornamentation, and he was adept at singing while playing. His formidable technique and rough timbre continue to influence modern players of Appalachian old-time music and in particular the Round Peak style of clawhammer banjo.
Tickets: Public $17; Seniors $14; BFOTM Members $12; Ages 17 & under FREE!
More info: concerts@brandywinefriends.org, www.brandywinefriends.org, or (302) 321-6466
