For more than three decades the annual Festival for the Eno has presented the best in traditional and contemporary music from North Carolina (and occasionally beyond) on multiple stages during the July 4 holiday weekend. What few folks know, however, is that the festival has recorded every one of those sets, and very little of that treasure trove has been available for public consumption. It is with great pride that WHUP showcases those performances in a weekly one-hour broadcast, curated by eminent music authority, organizer and promoter Art Menius.
The Eno Festival lineup over the years reads like a who’s who of North Carolina musicians and bands including legends as well as locals, all captured in the intimate setting of West Point on the Eno City Park under the guidance of audio engineer and archivist Jeff Brown. Classic Eno Festival Live brings listeners the best of those sessions, spanning a variety of musical genres and styles.
Classic Eno Festival Live is made possible by the Eno River Association, a Durham-based non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and protecting the Eno Riverwatershed and expanding the Eno River State Park for the benefit of current and future generations, and in cooperation with the Southern Folklife Collection at UNC-Chapel Hill, custodian of the festival archives.
